\n<\/span><\/h3>\n

This presentation will provide a brief history of Nepali community in Manitoba, how the not for profit organisation – Nepali Cultural Society of Manitoba was established in 2007. Dr. Singh will also discuss the establishment of the Nepali Language and Cultural Centre, He will\u00a0 elaborate on the many community initiatives undertaken by the Nepalese community members and also discuss the regional initiatives\u00a0 which are underway. The presentation will also focus on where the Community is now and what challenges it has faced while growing and what challenges it expects to face in the future.<\/span><\/p>\n

Speaker’s Bio:
\n<\/span><\/h3>\n

Dr. Purushottam Raj Singh<\/strong> a Nepal born civil engineer began his career as a water resources engineer for the Nepal government. After more than five years of public service in various rural districts of Nepal (Irrigation department), he obtained his Masters degree in irrigation engineering and management from the Asian Institute of Technology in Bangkok and a Ph.D. in water resources from the University of Alberta, Edmontonwhere he obtained his Masters degree in Irrigation Engineering and Management. He has extensive in the field of water resources development and its management gained from several years of experience in project management in Bangkok, Irrigation Department in Nepal and working for the Provincial Government and the private sector in Canada.. He has volunteered with numerous community and professional organisations and spearheaded several community-focused projects within the Nepali community and beyond. He has been serving as the founding coordinator of Nepali Language and Cultural Centre in Winnipeg since 2011. During this time, he also served in the Nepali Cultural Society of Manitoba for four years as the V.P. and President. While still a student at the University of Alberta, he was the founding secretary of Nepalese Canadian Society of Edmonton (NECASE). He has also continued to serve his many alumni institutes including president of the Canada Chapter of the AIT Alumni Association and as a Winnipeg rep of the University of Alberta.<\/p>\n
