Short Description:
As a general introduction to migration, this presentation shall cover the causes; decision-making; arrival, and reception in a foreign land; as well as noting pertinent issues and questions. A background on Nepal-related migration is included.
Speaker’s Bio:
Having lost family in the Holocaust and later forced by the occupying Soviets to escape from Hungary, Ivan began to understand conflict and related issues at an early age. Years later he consulted with both the Canada and Alberta Multiculturalism Secretariats; evaluated projects in Sandinista Nicaragua during the conflict with the Contras; worked many years since 1976 throughout Nepal with 5 Ministries, including during the Maoist insurgency; managed Canada’s only project in northern Pakistan during the Taliban’s most active days in the country; interacted with refugees from Tibet, Bhutan, and Afghanistan; oversaw a project with the repressed Roma of Slovakia; presented in Bangladesh on Naxalites and Maoists; and published academic articles on human trafficking, achievements, activities, some example projects, and where the presenter thinks the overall community is heading.
