Short Description:

This is a panel presentation by three women from the Edmonton Nepali community currently working in diverse areas of the Health Care Industry in Alberta. The purpose of the talk is also to promote & share the knowledge for the professional development of women in the healthcare industry through NETWORKING, EDUCATION and MENTORSHIP in our Nepalese community. We want to empower each other and grow together.

 

Speaker’s Bio:

Bijaya Dhakal, RPhT(ACP), MSc, BTech 

Bijaya Dhakal is currently working at Alberta Health Services, Pharmacy Department as a Regulated Pharmacy Technician with academic degrees Master of Chemistry and Btech National Diploma in Pharmacy Services from England. Currently, she is pursuing a Master of Public Health with intention to serve the public/community by multiple strategies through health projects in upcoming days.

Nami Shrestha, MPharm, PhD

Nami Shrestha is currently appointed as a Research Associate in the Department of Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, University of Alberta. She is working in clinical immunology to understand the molecular mechanism of allergy and asthma, mostly in the human model. Her research interests are in lung inflammation, allergy, and asthma. She has received the Paul Man Research Award in the Department of Medicine at the U of A, Brain Korea 21 Division of Cell transformation and Restoration Special Paper Award and has authored 40 plus scientific papers in peer-reviewed scientific journals. Nami volunteered  in several non-profit organisations for the last 5 years. Currently She is the Vice President of NECASE and involved in many community-based projects.

Alina Kharel BScN

Alina Kharel has over 10 years of Nursing experience in Canada. She is very experienced in working with people of all ages with multiple comorbidities. Currently Alina is working as a Registered Nurse in the Emergency department of University of Alberta Hospital / Stollery’s Children’s  Hospital. Alina is also a student of Master of Nursing, Nurse practitioner program. 

Alina enjoys  bike riding, walking, and spiritual practices.
